It is the day of the General Election here in the UK. I value my right to vote but have lost hope in the political system and the leaders I see. Today I am focussing on what hope might look like and what is possible. I am keeping everything crossed for a better way for my country and a sense of hope and possibility for my children on the brink of adulthood.
As an empath I absorb the apprehension and fear of those around me, both amongst friends and in the community. My belief system is that we are all one and that we need to build our common humanity.
What does it mean to be human? What does hope look like? I live a life that is often outside of the mainstream. I know that what heals me when the weight of the world gets too heavy is to be in nature and to be able to translate that in gentle, creative and restorative ways. Whilst I am creating I am not destroying. I advocate for the power of creativity to help and heal.
If like me you find yourself hurting for the world, and hoping for something better, remember the solace to be found by making and creating. Today I walked to the river and put my feet in. I felt the flow of nature and felt with my feet instead of thinking with my tired brain.
When I am creative. When I look, gather, draw and make, I embody my humanity. I touch on the legacy of humankind. In creation there is an incremental development, a building upon something I did once before, or something that has inspired me. There is a grounding in the flow of human existence and development. There are the hands that came before and those that will come after. When I make, I create, I connect. And that gives me hope.
Thank you for reading my post. As an artist and tutor of in-person workshops, retreats and online courses with fifteen years experience sharing my ideas and techniques I know that many of our creative blocks come from the stories we have been told. Finding flow, being able to make mistakes, ditching perfection and finding joy in the process and possibilities re-kindles our connection to self and enables connection and expression through the senses. You can find out more about me and what a subscription can offer you here. If you would like to join me for a course, find me at helenhallows.com. I am in the process of adding in-person courses for the autumn to compliment my online offerings.

What a heartwarming post! Here in the US, today we celebrate Independence Day. Given the increasing polarity and disturbing political situation, it doesn’t seem like we are enjoying the freedoms that our country is founded upon. I’m great full for this reminder to focus on creation and am looking forward to spending some time with my art journal this afternoon. 🧚🏼♀️ 🪄
We have hope! So much hope today of all days-let our longings be answered!
