Paint with abandon
What are you manifesting? What is in your manifesto for creative living? How do you express your hopes and dreams? In a journal, or the margins of a sketchbook? To move into a space of expression, you need to know what you want to express, how you wish to express it. You need a sense of what it might be. Not an absolute vision, but enough that you open a pathway to move along. Set enough boundaries that you don’t keep firing off on a tangent.
“Where do I want these pages to take me? I have lost sight of a narrative instead of enjoying the pull of a process. There is an urge towards abstraction. I can’t hold the strands in my head. I keep forgetting to look from above. To be the bird. To look below. To feel free. When I quieten and move my mind into neutral, new imaginings occur and I get hints of a new journey for my work. There are yearnings to paint with rich abstract shapes and textures, perhaps with stitch but not textiles. Staying willing and open to let the rays of new idea in. Gestural. Raw. Connected. Being the marks. Expression. Go beyond the surface . Paint with abandon”
In your journal or on a sketchbook page, write down:
what you feel connected to
when life feels expansive
what 3 art materials you would like to focus on using
what type of marks you want to make
how you want the creative process to make you feel
Once you have decided - Paint, draw, stitch, dance with abandon.
